This simple onion salad is a colorful accompaniment to barbecue, kebab or lahmacun. You need sumac to make the salad. But what is sumac? Sumak is ground sumac berries that have a sour and lemony taste. It can be used, among other things, in hummus or with fish, chicken and in salads in the Levant. You can also serve it alongside grilled food or lahmacun.
Zerzevat – Onion salad with sumac
Ingredients
- 2 onions with white skin (they are sweeter) or red onions
- 1 tsp sumac
- 1 handful parsley leaves leaves only
Instructions
- Pull the slices apart so that the onion becomes strips
- Place the slices in a bowl of cold water for about 10 minutes.
- Strain and squeeze by hand to get rid of the water
- Add salt and sumac and mix well by hand.
- Add parsley leaves and serve alongside grilled food or lahmacun.
